How to talk straight

From Kevin Duncan "Tick Achieve"

  • People who are incapable of coming to the point are literally pointless
  • Do not talk like this, otherwise you will be unclear about what to do, and this will prevent you from being able to Tick Achieve
  • This can have very bad consequences, the worst of of which is that you can't think straight if you can't talk straight.
  • The new world of waffle is beguiling and deceptive - if you can play no part in it
  • The curse of internal waffle refer to those who are incapable of being honest with themselves - this is the archenemy of getting things done effectively
  • There's waffle and there's strategic waffle - strategic waffle is additionally dangerous because it sounds as though it means something when in fact it often doesn't
  • A strategy is simply when you have decided what to do - keep your expression straightforward.
  • Spotting waffle is an important trait to develop - it prevents you from being fooled on the one hand, and shows you what phraseology to avoid on other
  • Understanding how language works is a huge bearing on your ability to speak and think clearly - learn as much as you can.
  • Pleonasms and circumlocution are to be avoided whenever possible
  • If you must use jargon at work, do not use it at home
  • Use friend, mom or grandmother test to find out whether you are talking (and therefore probably thinking) nonsense.
 Reminder to self. (^_^)

Shopping time aka Retails Therapy....

Hi.... ^^

Earlier plan is to just buy a couples of plain color fabric (kain ela) then send it to the tailor. If and if I had time, want to add some beads works into it. Hmmmm..... as it turns out, buying more than initial plan end up with 5 sets, with only one set is plain color and the rest of it, is either mix plains and design. Total purchase is RM 208.90 @ Nagoya...erk where to find the money, huhuhu....Borrow mom's card, since I didn't bring my own CC.

Plus another 2 sets that I bought last year, got 7 sets of baju kurung/buju kurung pahang to send to the tailor... Makcik Ani is my preferred tailor since I start sending her a couples of kain ela last year.

My mom bought 4 sets of kain ela and curtains cloths for our home in Melaka, so Makcik Ani got her hands full with our bookings. (^_^)

Right now I don't want to think about the tailor fee.... ($.$)
huhuhu.....couldn't enjoyed her holiday to the fullest at KK later.....
But never-mind, I will wear it during Raya time anyway <g>

Ok...that its for now

WTH???...........What's The Difference Between A Boss Vs. A Leader?

My 2cent worth of POV....

A BOSS Vs. A LEADER

The "Boss"

THERE'S A BIG DIFFERENCE !:

The Boss drives his men,
The Leader inspires them..

The Boss depends on authority,
The Leader depends on goodwill..

The Boss evokes fear,
The Leader radiates love..

The Boss says "I",
The Leader says "We"..

The Boss shows who is wrong,
The Leader shows what is wrong..

The Boss knows how it is done,
The Leader knows how to do it..

The Boss demands respect,
Leader commands respect

My holiday plan vs APC

Hi peeps....

Got good news and bad but first the good news is my works for past year have been recognised by THE BOSS. The ceremony is plan to be held on 28th. April 2011, oops... my holiday plan starts on 26th April 2011. Being annoyed and beyond rational, change my flight date from 27th. morning to 28th. evening which cost me RM267. Because I'm seriously in need of holiday but it happens to coincide with the APC ceremony.

Hopefully the committee does not change the date, because where can I fork-out the money to pay for the holiday *is keeping her finger crossed*....

(^^;) (>.<)(T.T)

On another notes, I've been stressed out about the drawing details that have yet to produce....
Sometimes (actually most of the time), feels being treated unfairly by the management. Produce..produce...produce....
Like there's no plan whatsoever??? where as the top management always stressed on making the plan works!!!
But what are the plan?? On this level (aka junior exec - if you can called it that) there's no clear paths or frameworks or strategies on tackling projects the department gets...

In the department, there's 1/3 part got most of the projects, 1/3 got the repairs projects and the last 1/3 got nothing??? So left to do a small scale projects with estimated cost was below RM1 mill but the actually it doesn't even reach RM 300k... Even though the value is small its still money. Given time period of 2 weeks (actually less than that) to produce a concept drawing, estimated cost and finally the details.

Sudden apathy hit's me from nowhere...left with little engery to do anything.
Woke-up to "please make it friday already"....
No motivation, no drive and no passion. Its like a little to late to do the appreciation thingy....

($.$) (>.<)(~O~)

On other notes, my cars have been cited by the traffice police with obstruction of traffic....
Its like this months really challenging and trying to my patiences and understanding and unreal.
The trains delayed twice in one week, prompting a change of coach first in Petaling which luckily the train stops at the platform during evening rush hour. Second, the incidents happens in morning rush hour where the trains stops at the middle of track just shy 100m to the platform. Peoples have to disembark from the train to the opposite platform then waits for another train to arrive.

The next hurdles is when the Touch n Go gate malfunction and charge me extra RM20...I just don't have the energy anymore....

Feels like a long month......

Ways to waste your money....

Afternoon people (^^)

Ok, today I found an interesting articles in yahoo "25 Ways to waste your money by Erin Burt, Contributing Editor in Yahoo! Wed. Marc,2,2011." So I thought, why not I post it here as reminder :)

Some of the advice is only suitable for US citizen only. The one in italic is applicable to all ^^

Plug your financial leaks, and pocket the savings.
Has your budget sprung a leak?
Nearly everyone has spending holes. And as with other kinds of leaks, you may have hardly noticed them. But those small drips can quickly add up to big bucks. The trick is to find the holes and plug them so you can keep more money in your pocket. That extra cash could be the ticket to finally being able to save, invest, or break your cycle of living from paycheck to paycheck.

Here are 25 common ways people waste money. See if any of these sound familiar, then look for ways to plug your own leaks:

1. Carrying a balance. Debt is a shackle that holds you back. For instance, if you have a $1,000 balance on a credit card that charges an 18% rate, you blow $180 every year on interest. Get in the habit of paying off your balance in full each month.

2. Overspending on gas and oil for your car. There's no need to spring for premium fuel if the manufacturer says regular is just fine. You should also check to make sure your tires are optimally inflated to get the best gas mileage. And are you still paying for an oil change every 3,000 miles? Many models nowadays can last 5,000 to 7,000 miles between changes, and some even have built-in sensors to tell you when it's time to change the oil. Check your manual to find the best time for your car's routine maintenance.

3. Keeping unhealthy habits. Smoking costs a lot more than just what you pay for a pack of cigarettes. It significantly increases the cost of life and health insurance. And you'll pay more for homeowners and auto insurance. Add in various other expenses, and the true cost of smoking adds up dramatically over a lifetime -- $86,000 for a 24-year-old woman over a lifetime and $183,000 for a 24-year-old man over a lifetime, according to "The Price of Smoking" (The MIT Press). Another habit to quit: indoor tanning. There is now a 10% tax on indoor tanning services. As with cigarettes, the true cost of tanning -- which the World Health Organization lists among the worst-known carcinogens -- is higher than just the price you pay each time you go to the salon.

4. Using a cell phone that doesn't fit. How many people do you know who have spent hundreds of dollars on fancy phones, and then pay hundreds of dollars every month for the privilege of using them? Your phone is not a status symbol. It is a way to communicate. Many people pay too much for cell phone contracts and don't use all their minutes. Go to BillShrink.com or Validas.com to evaluate your usage and see if you can find a plan that fits you better. Or consider a prepaid cell phone. Compare rates at MyRatePlan.com.

5. Buying brand-name instead of generic. From groceries to clothing to prescription drugs, you could save money by choosing the off-brand over the fancy label. And in many cases, you won't sacrifice much in quality. Clever advertising and fancy packaging don't make brand-name products better than lesser-known brands.

6. Keeping your mouth shut. No one wants to be a nuisance. But by simply asking, you may be able to snag a lower rate on your credit card. When shopping, watch for price discrepancies at the cash register, and make a habit of asking, "Do you have a coupon for this?" You might even be able to haggle for a lower price, especially on seasonal or perishable items, floor models or big-ticket purchases. Many stores will also match or beat their competitors' prices if you speak up. And try asking for a discount if you pay cash or debit -- this saves the store the cut it has to pay the credit-card company, so it may be willing to give you a deal. It doesn't hurt to ask.

7. Buying beverages one at a time. If you're in the habit of buying bottled water, coffee-by-the-cup or vending-machine soda, your budget has sprung a leak. Instead, drink tap water or use a water filter. Brew a homemade cuppa joe. Buy your soda in bulk and bring it to work. (Better yet, skip the soda in favor of something healthier.)

8. Paying for something you can get for free. There's a boatload of freebies for the taking, if you know where to look. Some of our favorites include restaurant meals for kids, credit reports, software programs, prescription drugs and tech support. You can also help yourself to all the books, music and movies your heart desires at your local library for free (or dirt cheap).

9. Stashing your money with Uncle Sam rather than in an interest-earning account. If you get a tax refund each April, you let the government take too much money in taxes from your paycheck all year long. Get that money back in your pocket this year -- and put it to work for you -- by adjusting your tax withholding. You can file a new Form W-4 with your employer at any time.

10. Being disorganized. It pays to get your financial house in order. Lost bills and receipts, forgotten tax deductions, and clueless spending can cost you hundreds of dollars each year. Start by setting up automatic bill payment online for your monthly bills to eliminate late fees and postage costs. Then get a handful of files to organize important receipts, insurance policies, tax documents and other statements.
Finally, consider using free budgeting software such as Mint.com to see exactly where your money goes, making it much harder for you to lose track of it.

11. Letting your money wallow in a low-interest account. You work hard for your money. Shouldn't it work hard for you too? If you're stashing your cash in a traditional savings account earning next-to-nothing, you're wasting it. Make sure you're getting the best return on your money. Search for the highest yields on CDs and money-market savings accounts. And consider using a free online checking account that pays interest, such as ones offered by Everbank and ING Direct.
Your stocks and mutual funds should be working hard for you, too. If they've been lagging behind their peers for too long, it could be time to say goodbye. Learn how to spot a wallowing fund or stock.

12. Paying late fees and missing deadlines. Return those library books and movie rentals on time. Mail in those rebates. Submit expense reports on time for reimbursement. And if you make a bad purchase, don't just stuff it in the back of the closet and hope it goes away. Get off your duff, return it and get your money back before you lose the receipt.

13. Paying ATM fees. Expect to throw away nearly $4 every time you use an ATM that isn't in your bank's network. That's because you'll pay an ATM surcharge, and your own bank will hit you with a non-network fee. Consider switching to a bank, such as Ally Bank, that doesn't charge ATM fees and reimburses you for fees other banks charge. Another way to avoid fees if there's not an ATM in your bank's network nearby is to get cash back when you make a purchase at the grocery store or drugstore.
RM1 is considered as cheap or not??

14. Shopping at the grocery store without a calculator. Check how much an item costs per ounce, pound or other unit of measurement. When you comparison-shop by unit price, you save. For example, if a pack of 40 diapers costs $13, that's 33 cents per diaper. But if you buy a box of 144 diapers for $35, that's 24 cents per diaper. You save 27%! (Of course, buying more of something only saves money if you use it all. If you end up throwing much out, you wasted money.)

15. Paying for things you don't use. Do you watch all those cable channels? Do you need those extra features on your phone? Are you getting your money's worth out of your gym membership? Are you taking full advantage of your Netflix, TiVo and magazine subscriptions? Take a look at what your family actually uses, then trim accordingly.
But here, ASTRO monopolize the cable channels. :(

16. Not reading the fine print. Thought you were being smart by transferring the balance on a high-rate credit card to a low-rate one? Did you read the fine print, though? Some credit-card companies now charge up to 5% for balance transfers. Also watch out for free checking accounts that aren't so free. Some banks are starting to charge fees unless you meet certain criteria.
Yup, you should even though its a hassle to read it. ^^

17. Mismanaging your flexible spending account. For some people, that means failing to take advantage of their workplace FSA, which lets employees set aside pre-tax dollars for out-of-pocket medical costs. Other people fail to submit receipts on time. And the average worker leaves $86 behind in his or her use-it-or-lose-it FSA account each year, according to WageWorks, an employee benefits provider.

18. Being an inflexible traveler. You'll save a lot of money on travel if you're willing to be flexible. Consider traveling before or after peak season when prices are lower. Or search for flights over a range of dates to find the lowest fare. Booking at the last minute also can save you money because hotels and airlines slash prices to fill rooms and planes. And flexibility pays off at blind-booking sites, such as Priceline or Hotwire, which offer deep discounts if you're willing to book a room or flight without knowing which hotel or airline (or other details about the flight) you're getting until you pay.
I think, I'm a flexible traveler :)

19. Sticking with the same service plans and the same service providers year after year. Hey, we're all for loyalty to trusted service providers, such as your bank, insurer, credit-card company, mutual fund, phone plan or cable plan. But over time, as prices and your circumstances change, the status-quo may not be the best deal any more. Smart consumers are always on the lookout for bargains.

20. Making impulse purchases. When you buy before you think, you don't give yourself time to shop around for the best price. Take the time to compare prices online, read product reviews and look for coupons when appropriate.Make it a policy to give yourself a cooling-off period in case you're ever tempted to make an impulse purchase. Go home and sleep on the decision. More often than not, you'll decide you don't need the item after all.
That's why, I didn't bring my CC anymore...

21. Dining out frequently. Spending $10, $20, $30 per person for dinner can be a huge drain on your wallet. Throw in a $6 sandwich for lunch every day and you've got quite a leak. Learning to cook and bringing your lunch from home can save a couple hundred bucks each month. When you do go out, consider getting carry-out instead of dining in (you'll save on the tip and drink), skip the overpriced appetizer and dessert, and search the Web for coupons ahead of time.

22. Trying to time the stock market. In trying to buy low and sell high, many people actually do the opposite. Instead, employ the simple strategy of "dollar-cost-averaging." By investing a fixed dollar amount at regular intervals, you smooth out the ups and downs of the market over time. If you take out the emotion and guesswork, investing can become less stressful, less wasteful and more successful.

23. Buying insurance you don't need. You only need life insurance if someone is financially dependent upon you, such as a child. That means most singles, seniors or kids don't need a policy. Other policies you can probably do without include credit-card insurance (better to use the premium to pay down your debt in the first place), rental-car insurance (most auto policies and credit cards carry some coverage), mortgage life insurance and accidental-death insurance (a regular term-life insurance policy will do the trick).
All the annoying calls that we received, once a while.

24. Buying new instead of used. Talk about a spending leak -- or, rather, a gush. Cars lose 20% of their value the moment they're driven off the lot and 65% in the first five years. Used models can be a real value because you can get a car that's still in fine working order for a fraction of the new-car price. And you'll pay less in collision insurance and taxes, too. Cars aren't the only things worth buying used. Consider the savings on pre-owned books, toys, exercise equipment, children's clothing and furniture. (Of course, there are some things you're better off buying new, including mattresses, laptops, linens, shoes and safety equipment, such as car seats and bike helmets.)

25. Procrastinating. Time is an asset money can't buy. Start investing for retirement as soon as possible. For instance, if a 40-year-old saves $300 a month with an 8% return per year, he'll have $287,000 by age 65. If he had started saving 15 years earlier at age 25, he'd have more than $1 million.

See you guys in another post...TATA (^^)

Reading the book & the similarity with the office

Hi peeps ^^

So I start reading the "Getting Even" book yesterday evening (dah x sabor dah tu ;p) and realise that some of the situation mention in the books' is similar with the current office settings. Bad mouthing the BOSS is part of an oppressed or an unjustified employee methods of getting even (aka revenge) at the management. Its non violent revenge methods but can lead to many negative impacts to the image or future of said people.

Let me share something that I experienced this morning at the meeting with clients; the meeting title was Coordination Meetings for Projects in Sarawak. In my (lets say naive) opinion, the purpose of the meetings was that we're gonna be briefed with the project scopes, locations, funding etc. about the technical things to smooth through so that we can produce the tender documents or appoints relevant people. Instead the meetings is about determining the responsible agency to carry out the projects. The meeting members are from Sarawak, the ministry and us but the differences was that, they send their senior management level exec. where as us sending a mere junior level exec...(>.<) to discuss and make a pertinent decision about the projects future. Felt stupid and trapped the whole time in the meeting.

And now, I'm being informed by other clients that my other projects is going to be handle by other department in our agency. End up with no projects in 2011, HAH!!

My plan right now is to blanking my mind from office stuff and consentrate with other projects that been deem non productive....take that BOSS!!! since saying I'm quit is not option right now....hehehe where to finds jobs ma???

So goodbye and have a nice day to anybody who have been kind enough to read this....

Fallacy or delusions in workplace

Hi....

Today went to the library to find a book on Microsoft Outlook 2007 since the TOP MANAGEMENT decided to change the email system from Groupwise to Microsoft Exchange. Good move BUT maybe rather abrupt??

Never able to log-in through the log-in page, since the first time I log in. Always, always got this message instead:-
"The client was unable to establish a secure connection with the server. Please try signing in again. If the problem persists, please contact your system administrator."

In the end just log using the MS Outlook 2007 on the start menu/quick launch menu. Call the hot-line no. only got the ringing tone till the end. Crap customer service.

Since the book is not available from the library, have to resort to online help. Settle my problem of creating a distribution list.

While waiting, browsing the new books on display and found this books;
GETTING EVEN - The Truth About WORKPLACE REVENGE and How to stop it.
TICK ACHIEVE - How to get stuff done.
Borrowed and gonna read it this weeked while waiting for the SUPERNATURAL episode 13 is being downloaded. (^^)

Rainy day

Salam and Morning peeps....

On Wednesday, first time I've got seated on the way over and on the way back. Felt so grateful but sometimes feel guilty that I've got the seat when more needy person needs it. Be good person with her wits intact or good person without her marbles?? O.o

Yesterday, we have heavy downpour of rain in KL then I've decided to forgo the train and drive instead. It took one (1) hour drive from my house to office due to the rains flooding the roads making it slippery and an anxious driver. Arrive at the office then looking for a parking space was really an experienced itself. First time park as double parkee another car when usually my car was the one being blocked. Rather anxious and unsettle for the whole day and keep watching my phone for miss called or called.

10 Q before engagement....

10 Soalan Sebelum Bertunang

by FARISZ@AZ.Com on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at 9:37pm @ FACEBOOK.....

Apakah pandangan bakal pasangan hidupnya.

Elevating the foot

2nd. day evening post.

This the view from my room at 5.20pm;

Dark clouds promising heavy rain.....

From my room

Speed walking from office to station and manage to catch the 5.32pm train. The passenger volume is noticeably less compare to yesterday that was until it's stop at KL Station & KL Sentral Station, probably the crowds is not punch out yet and since I punch out early today :p

Notice the orange arrow, where people supposed to disembark from the train, the path.....
How "kiasu" is Malaysian people???
People ignoring the marks on the platform....

At Bank Negara Station; 5.30pm

This is me waiting for the train and resting from speed walking....

Smooth ride till Petaling Station anndd it stop for 10 min; reverse and stop for another 15min by this time my feet is really killing me.

In the train, I start thinking is this action I'm taking right now worth the reason why I start using the public transportation??? Tired, sore foot, bigger appetite (";), peoples attitude and longer travel time since on the average it takes one (1) hour journey per ride....

Kept saying, another ...... of days; and oh its T-17days from today.

My lil's sis suggest buying a fold-able chair, small enough you can put it in your backpack and lightweight. I'm thinking a camping chair....hmmm have to find one this weekend. Ahhh....another reason to shop :D

Putting my
camera to
good use :D
How pack it
was the train,
from KL Sentral, you asked me? This is the answer :)

Tired

2nd. day Afternoon Post.

My day start at 5.30am with ironing the work clothes, feeding the online pets etc. Arrived at the station around 7.00am but an accidents with the water bottle cap opened and drenching the driver seat also my clothes. While walking towards the station, saw the train is coming for the 7.04am ride. Running to tag the Touch n Go card, the stairs and manage to squeeze into the train. Arrived at Bank Negara around 7.55am, walks towards the office takes about 10min, [no rushing ;)]. Clock-in at 8.10am at the punch card and this is my feeling right now;

Komuter ride experience

1st day evening post.

There's suppose to be a shuttle train to arrive at 5.43pm but it's being canceled.
The next train was on 6.00pm, with peoples becomes more crowded. The idea behind the shuttle train is to reduce the traffic volume of passenger per train ride but when I ask fellow trains-mate, she said the shuttle train is totally unreliable. Since the our previous PM in 2007 braving the train rides, there's nothing practical solution have been made by KTM.

Before the train arrive at the station, there's an announcement made by KTM service announcing the train arrival and where it's currently stop. First announcement stated the train is on Taman Wahyu Station but the last 2 stated the train is still at Batu Caves??? Incorrect or inaccurate information is embarrassing to KTM image and creates more disgruntle and aggressive passenger.

By boarding the train at Bank Negara I've able to squeeze into the train but by the KL Sentral station, it would be most difficult to board since more passenger were boarding there. The term packed sardine is not enough to describe it, since in the sardine can there's still room to move.

KTM should look into more available practical solutions, since this my first ride since my collage days its a sourly experience for me and for the tourist also.

Time with KTM Komuter

1st day morning post:-

My first month in this new year resolution is boarding the komuter to work due to:
1. Save some money
2. Avoid stressful driving; since I'm becoming more like a road bully (^_^;)
3. Reduce my carbon foot print.
4. Avoid traffic summons

The calculation for reason no.1

Komuter
Komuter: RM 2.8 x 2 x 20 day = RM 112 (return trip)
Park @ KTM: RM 2 x 20 = RM 40
Fuel: RM 100
Total: RM 252.00

Drive
Fuel: RM 50 x 6 = RM 300 (Shah Alam - KL using Federal Highway + Sprint + LDP)
or RM 1.9 x 30L x 4 weeks = RM 228/1000 km (works return trip only)

Toll: RM 3.10 x 20 = RM 62.00
Federal Highway: RM 1.00 + RM 1.10 = RM 2.10
Sprint: RM 1.00
Total: RM 362.00/RM 290.00

The route I'm taking is from Shah Alam to Bank Negara with timetable 7.04 am or 7.19 am. Arrive at the KTM Station Sec. 19 approximately at 7am, boarding at 7.10 am and arrive at Bank Negara 8.05am.

Disturbing thing was, there still the "kiasu" attitude among the passenger. People coming out is stuck with the people crowd around the door. I'll do my best to make sure that I would not be one of them but sometimes its very frustrating when dealing with selfish peoples.
